To Many Matches Not Enough Time

HOPEFULLY NORMAL SERVICE WILL RESUME FROM NOW ON

The following is a brief review of my latest matches in April all at

Myself

Good Friday April 14th

19 fished today and i drew peg 16 on the motorway bank
Fished normal top 2 with Paste feeding 4mm Pellet
Ended with 11 Carp best going 14lb 12oz all coming from the right hand swim.
Fed 5 bags of pellet today
Fished hard today but fortunately i managed to sneak the win
Good Start
😀😀

Smallest Carp from today

Day 1 Easter Festival 15th April

Day 1 saw me sitting on peg 4 which suited me as i've already fished it once this year and had 144lb so was more than happy with that draw
😀😀😀

Peg 4

Well long story short it never happened today as i had 1 Carp and 1 Bream in the first 2 hours then nothing till half hour to go when i managed 2 more Carp to end up with 3 Carp and 1 Bream for a weight of  43lb 13oz
Never felt that normal feeding would work today so only fed just on 4 bags today

Today's Carp might not be many but good fish as always
😀😀

This put me down into 5th in section and way down in joint 13th with 5 points

Day 2 Easter Festival 16th April

A move into the big lake today to peg 28 which although was only 6th in section yesterday with 20lb brought a smile to my face as I've had some good days fishing it in the past.

Well again a 5 hour story cut very short due to time but had a great day with odd Carp throughout the day along with 2 Bream all bar one of which came from the left swim to end the day with 11 Carp & 2 Bream for 137lb 9oz and the section win and second overall on the day.
😀😀
Again only fed just over 4 bags today.

Day 3 Easter Festival 17th April

Following yesterdays result i'd moved up to joint 6th with 6 points so still an outside chance of finishing in the top half depending on how the others do today

Today Eddie T-G decided as he was stewarding that he'd play about with his Video and seeing as he like myself is bit of a Paste Head he done a short video of my approach to fishing and it can be seen if you click the on set up

Well peg 15 was my home and it had performed terrible over the first 2 days with it being last in section both days with 14lb 5oz on day 1 and only 10oz yesterday so surely it can only get better
😈😈

 Peg 15

Well after 5 hours i'd had just 4 bites which resulted in 3 Carp for 37lb 5oz which got me 6th in section but seeing as it was also the best weight off the peg over the 3 days i was pleased as to me i don't think i could have got much more if i'd chopped about.

Easter Festival Section and Overall Winners

As a summary of the weekends fishing i didn't do well overall but was more than happy to sneak a section win on day 2 and to record the highest weight from each of my draws over all 3 days
😀😀😀😀

Just leaves me to say Big Thank You to John & Pauline Bennett for hosting the Festival and continuing to run my favorite fishery.
Also thanks to Eddie - Dai and Charlie for their Duties over the weekend.

YES IT'S THAT TIME AGAIN

Saturday 22nd April saw the first day of what is normally called
THE JINX SERIES 2 DAY WARM UP

But due to a lack of JINXSTERS taking up the pegs i opened it up to anyone and ran it as 2 separate opens on the Saturday and Sunday.

Saturday saw 14 of us fish

And star of the day was Julie sat down on peg 16.

By the half way mark Jue was fishless but following a little advice on feeding and Paste texture i took the following 3 pictures

2 more carp followed giving Jue a final weight of  38lb 10oz and a Section Win
😀😀😀😀

13lb Common for Jue

Sunday saw 21 of us fish
And star of the day was Charlie Bishop on peg 4
walking the match with 151lb 15oz with fish to 19lb 8oz
6 on the Board for 102lb 10oz

Well that's me all caught up with the reports so hopefully i can keep it up to date as well as actually giving it some waffle whilst doing so
😵😵😵😵

Next trip is this coming Friday Night for the JINX NIGHT MATCH

Rolfs Lake Wednesday Open 12th April 2017

Back up the lake for my third Wednesday Open on the trot this year.

Today was a little different to the past 2 weeks though as i was late 😜
(said it wouldn't last me being early)

When i arrived i was pleasantly surprised to see the car park full as there were 23 of us fishing today and i was soon informed my home for the day was little used peg 31

Peg 31

I was more than happy with being on 31 as i haven't drawn it in a match for a few years and always like different pegs.

Due to being short on time i wont bore anyone with all the finer details as to what i did or didn't do as i used all the same gear and fished the same 2 lines at top 2 as in all the past matches this year and fed just over 4 bags of 4mm pellet.

I caught 10 Carp ( 7 weighers ) and 2 Bream for a total of 102lb 1oz

Rolfs Lake Open Wednesday 5th April

Open Wednesday 5th April

Yippee another day off and its a Wednesday so up to Rolfs i went

Following my trip last week I've actually done a bit of prep for today
😱😱😱

Tuesday evening saw me put new elastic in 4 top kits
and grind up some more paste
😎

THAT'S MAJOR PREPARATION FOR ME LOL

Well onto today's session and i arrived for the second time this year nearly 2 hours early
(bet it don't last though lol)

On to the draw and with 17 fishing i let all the eager beavers dip in the bag and when i went in peg 24 in the big lake stuck to my mitt

Peg 24 Home for the day

I really pushed the boat out today and plumbed up 3 lines and 1 of those was REALLY LONG for me at top 2 + 2 to the edge of the tree on my right and the other 2 lines were as always top 2 left and right 😁

Both rigs were the ones i used last week but i had to add a couple of foot of line to each (much to Dai's disgust lol ) as they weren't long enough ( no i dont change ) lol

Rigs used today that were tied for last years Easter Festival and still going strong

Tactics today was as normal for me Pellet & PASTE and if that didn't work i had a back up plan of fishing  PASTE & Pellet hehe

At 2pm John called the all in and i shipped out on the Long Line with a 8mm pellet on the hook.

After a few movements of the float i'd had enough of the pellet so switched to Paste and missed a couple of quick bites then bang fish on 😀😀
That was quickly followed by 2 more fish so with half hour gone i had 3 fish and guessed i had about 45lb

Then that area just died so onto the top kit lines but they were dead as well

For the next 2 hours+ i switched around the 3 swims without getting a proper bite in any 😕😕

Just on 6pm i finally started to get a few real bites and put another 7 Carp in the net along with 2 Bream all falling to paste before the all out at 7pm
😁😁😁

When the scales arrived my weights were as follows

2 x Bream = 6lb 6oz
6 x Carp = 36lb 12oz
4 x Carp = 58lb 2oz

Total Weight of 101lb 4oz

Which was good enough for 3rd on the day
😀😀😀😀

Fed just on 3 bags of pellet today which is less than normal but never felt more feed would result in more fish

First Trip of 2017 Rolfs Lake Open

Wednesday Open 29th March 2017

Well after a 3 year break from having the time to report on my bank side activities

I'M BACK 😈😈

First trip out for 2017 was on the Wednesday Open at Rolfs Lake and with the clocks changing last Sunday it was a 1pm Draw with fishing from 2 till 7

For a change i arrived nearly 2 hours before the draw as i wanted to sort my gear out as i hadn't looked at it since early December last year but as normally happens i never touched it lol

Didn't seem like 2 hours but soon everyone arrived and it was time for the draw and i pulled out peg 4 in the small lake

Off i strolled to my peg to set up and that's where silly things started to happen 😱

Top Kit tubes pulled from the rod bag and that's when i remembered that i needed to elasticate some kits as of my 6 top kits only 1 had sensible orange elastic the rest either had knicker elastic about an 8 or no elastic lol

Well as normal i didn't sort any of them out with new elastics lazy as normal

A quick rummage through my box and i found 3 rigs and yes i had to untangle them as they had just been chucked in my box when i last fished as i did intend to make some new ones as i had used them all through last season ( i ain't changed) lol

Any way all 3 where actually perfect for the peg as when i plumbed around with them i found

Rig 1 was perfect depth for 5 sections down the right margin
Rig 2 perfect for 5 sections straight in front
Rig 3 perfect for the Top 2

Could get technical and say what type and weight floats and diameter of line they all were but i ain't got a clue other than some had a lot of shot on and one didn't and they were all Red lol
Line was probably .21 or .23 powerline

But i did put a new hook on each which was a size 12

FAILING TO PREPARE IS PREPARING TO FAIL
Springs to mind lol

Anyway enough of the prep or rather lack of it on to the fishing

At the all in i put a small handful of pellet on both my left and right top 2 swims then promptly went off back to the van as i'd run out of cig papers (see said i ain't changed at all)

On my return i put a 6mm pellet on and dropped it into my left top 2 swim and almost instantly missed a sail away bite, next put in resulted in a foul hooked fish that's still swimming at speed across the lake.

So 3rd put in was with Paste which resulted in a few knocks of the float the BANG fish on I instantly knew it was a lump as it just wandered off rather the going mental

Took about 5 mins before i even saw it and about the same again till it was safely netted and what a start as it was a right lump going between 18 & 20lb

HAPPY DAYS I'M BACK

To cut a 5 hour story short I took 6 more Carp from the left swim and 5 from the right swim along with 2 Bream all on the Paste for a total of 11 Carp and 2 Bream

Couple of today's Carp
(wont be doing landing net shots again as they look way smaller than they actually were

At the weigh in i had 3 nets as follows

Net 1   Silvers = 2 Bream & 1 Gudgeon for      7lb +
Net 2   Small Carp           =           6 fish for     48lb +
Net 3    Big Carp               =             5 fish for     89lb
Total Weight 144lb 9oz

And that was enough for the win

Don't forget though that i've screwed up a few things today as follows

I FAILED TO PREPARE WHICH IS PREPARING TO FAIL

I FISHED PASTE & IT'S TO COLD AND EARLY FOR PASTE

Must remember when i fish next Wednesday that i need to Prepare & i must not fish Paste

Yeah right i think ill do what i always do and do it MY WAY
😜😜😜

An Apology

Due to trying to juggle work and family issues over the past 3 years i have had to give my fishing reports a miss as i just have not had the time BUT hopefully i will now be able to find the time to continue with getting re started on here again with both good and bad trips to the bank side.

Rolfs Lake Bank Holiday Open 26th May 2014

Rolfs Lake Bank Holiday Open Monday 26th May 2014

Nothing is ever simple with me and today was no different !!!!!!

Seeing as i was at home in Wales this weekend it meant a 5am start for me as i needed to go to work in Newbury and then to Reading to collect my fishing gear as it was split between both.

Well i finally arrived at Rolfs Lake just on 10am and with the draw due at 11am i was EARLY

A nice Rolfs breakfast cooked by Pauline and washed down with a coffee was soon eaten and before i knew it the draw was ready.

As normal i held back for drawing and when i drew there were 3 pegs left and peg number 8 stuck to my grubby mit (that'll do for me).

Last time i drew peg 8 was on the last day of the Easter Festival when it earned me a Section win with 118lb so i was happy with the draw.

PEG 8
Picture above not from today as it never stopped raining.

For company today on Peg 7 was Steve Palmer so at least if we didn't catch we'd have a bit of banter as Steve is always worth a laugh or 2.

So on to the fishing for a change i set up 2 rigs one to fish at 2mtrs both left and right and 1 to fish in the right margin.

Bait for today was Pellet and Paste as normal with pellet as feed.

When the all i was called i was actually ready so a couple of hand fulls of pellet went in each swim then i walked off to the van as i'd left my flask there.

When i returned i put in to the right swim and instantly missed 2 bites on pellet so 3rd put in was with Paste and that made all the difference as soon a 13lber was on the board (Happy Days).

Things never really got started during the match with just the odd fish coming solely from my right swim during the day and i ended up with 7 Carp (5 on the board) and 1 Skimmer but lost 7 as well and even managed to snap an elastic on an angry carp (recovered after the match though).

My final weight was 83lb 4oz witch ended up good enough for the win thats how hard it fished (BUT I WAS HAPPY).

       RESULTS
  1. Malc Doyle -------- 83lb 4oz
  2. Pat Pritchard ------- 74lb 11oz
  3. Mick Chapple ----- 72lb 3oz
  4. Micheal Corsini --- 69lb 8oz
  5. Ady Williams ------ 58lb 3oz
19 Fished

Back out next weekend for 3 matches which are
Friday -- Night Open
Saturday -- Jinx Match 2
Sunday -- Neil Riddy Invitational

So hopefully it's a bit dryer then and i might get to take a picture or 2.

2014 JINX SERIES MATCH 1

2014 JINX SERIES MATCH 1
SATURDAY MAY 10th

Following on from last nights match i slept in the van ready for today BUT i had to leave at 7am to deliver the 2 pallets i'd dropped in Newbury last night and fully expected to be back at the lake before 12
BUT NO

Again things conspired against me and a call to Nick W was made to sort the draw out.

I arrived back at the lake just as the all in was called and made my way round to Peg 7 much to the annoyance of Dave C sitting on peg 8 in peace till i arrived.

Dave had already had a couple of net fish before i started but my first put in on the standard Top Kit with Paste resulted in a pristine 12lber on the board HAPPY DAYS lol

Well for the rest of the match i managed the odd fish (all on Top Kit) to end up with 8 Carp for 110lb 13oz which was good enough for 3rd in my section and 3rd overall so once again i was happy with that.
